Q & A with Progressive Sport Franchisees

Kris England and Pete Randal who run the Progressive Sport Franchise within the South Gloucester and Bristol Territory

How long have you been operating a Progressive Sports Franchise?

3 years

How have you found running your own business?

We have really enjoyed the freedom of being our own boss and knowing that we have control over our futures. The hard work that we have put into running our own business, allow us both to reap the rewards.

What are you ambitions for the Franchise?

We have plans for continued growth by the way of securing more contracts with schools and look to extend the services we offer in the private market. We would also like to extend the franchise territory within the next 12 months – which is all part of our overall growth plan to expand the business.

What was your turnover in your first year of trading?

We generated revenue of £65,000 in the first year, and we expect to nearly double the turnover for year 2 to between £100-120,000.

What hurdles have you had to overcome since you have been operating?

A challenge within our market is always getting to speak to the decision maker within schools – but we do have some very creative ways that we are using currently, which are proving to be very successful. Essentially though, it’s building wonderful relationships with our customers

If you haven’t achieved what you have set out to achieve, why do you think this is?

We met our targets for year 1 and year 2, so we are happy with what we have achieved so far. With continued support from Headquarters, there is no limit to what can be achieved in our market.

What advice would you give somebody who was looking to buy a Progressive Sports Franchise?

Make sure you research the territory well and know where the competition is operating to differentiate yourself.

In terms of choosing which Franchise operation to invest in, it was very important to us to find a company that considered us as individuals opposed to just another number in their network.

What has the support been like from the Head Office?

The support has been really good and has helped is establish ourselves in our first and second year. We receive a lot of support in the way of marketing, which helps us to continue to grow our business.

Also, outside of the direct support we receive from the Head Office, we meet up regularly with neighbouring Franchisees to share good practise.

How do you see the Sports Education Market developing in the years ahead?

I see company’s like ourselves involvement in schools continuing to increase, with schools looking to outsource more and more of their PE. There is also continued investment from the Government to support primary schools with driving improvement with their PE & school sport and in particular, the announcement from the recent budget last month is absolutely outstanding. There really is no better time to get involved

Would you recommend a Progressive Sports Franchise?

Absolutely 100% yes! If you are passionate about sport, have the opportunity to run your own business and want to make a difference and have fun whilst doing so, get in contact with Head Office straight away to find out of your area is available. The potential market value is increasing and the government appears to be taking what we do more seriously.
